I Don’t Know What I Believe Series

When belief is held captive in the mind and not worked out into our whole life it can stagnate and turn into cold religion, hardened ideology, or even die altogether. We are left wondering, "I don't know what I believe anymore." In this series, Thrive explores faith as a verb that we practice and get better at. Because all faith should lead to an increased capacity of loving God, others, and self in such a way that our world is better because we believe.

I DON’T KNOW WHAT I BELIEVE - Part 1: Who Do We Believe?
Jason Raitz, April 28th, 2019

Christianity is sometimes portrayed as a set of certainties that must be understood before embracing it. However, the Apostle Paul challenges us in 2 Timothy 1 to cling tighter to who we know rather than what we know. As Pastor Steven Furtick preached, “You don’t have to completely understand God in order to completely trust Him with your life.” Life is less about how confident you can be in your certainties, and more about how confidently you can cling to Christ in the uncertainties of your life. After all, there is one thing we can take certainty in: nothing we know has the power to save us. Only Jesus has the ability to do that.

I DON’T KNOW WHAT I BELIEVE - Part 2: How Do We Believe?
Dave Shephard, May 5th, 2019

We have been handed what to believe on a silver platter, carefully prepared and displayed. But most of us have never been told WHY we should believe in the first place. So we never really own our faith, we adopt someone else's faith. This week we look at how faith shapes the way we live by changing the way we think, and what we value.
